Australia’s Sex Toy Habits in 2026
What's really in Australians' bedside drawers in 2026?
According to new data, men are buying sex toys at almost three times the rate of women. To find out just how Australians shop for pleasure, Pleasure Chest pulled its own anonymous sales data from January to August 2026, covering orders shipped to every state and territory in the country. The result is Pleasure Chest's most detailed snapshot yet of the nation's sex toy habits.
From the products topping the charts nationally to the surprising state-by-state differences (looking at you, Tasmania), the data reveals a lot about what Australians want in the bedroom and when they're most in the mood to buy it.
All data is sourced from Pleasure Chest's own sales records and is fully anonymous.

State Breakdowns
Australia's national trend looks fairly consistent, but break it down by state and the story gets a lot more interesting. Lubricants hold the top spot in seven of eight states and territories. Tasmania is the one exception, with cock rings taking first place instead.
Beyond products, the data also reveals the country's most pleasure-filled cities within each state, ranked by sales volume rather than survey or sentiment.
New South Wales
NSW broadly follows the national product trend, with lubricant, dildos and vibrators among its leading categories. Cock rings also rank highly, taking third place in the state.

NSW's top buyer locations are a very Sydney affair. Surry Hills brings its usual mix of galleries, fashion and nightlife, while Redfern and Marrickville round out the list as two of the city's most multicultural, creatively alive pockets.

Victoria
Victoria's top five includes some less prominent national categories, with cock rings and masturbators ranking ahead of dildos.

Victoria's top cities hold one real surprise. St Kilda and Brunswick fit the mould, both known for nightlife, music and culture. Preston is the outlier, with no such reputation, yet it still cracked the state's top five.

Queensland
Queensland follows the national pattern with lubricant at #1, while cock rings, dildos, ball stretchers and masturbators round out the state's top five.

The location data adds another local twist. Southport recorded the most orders in Queensland, followed by Caboolture, with Brisbane ranking third.
Southport is the Gold Coast's central business district, with a thriving arts and nightlife scene and one of the youngest, most apartment-heavy populations in the state. Caboolture, a smaller, fast-growing town north of Brisbane, has one of the younger, more family-heavy populations around. It seems like pleasure shopping in Queensland isn't just a big-city thing.

Western Australia
WA's top five shows a stronger presence for specialised categories, with sex machine accessories ranking third and penis pumps rounding out the list.

WA's top spot isn't Perth’s CBD. Baldivis, a booming outer-Perth suburb that's basically one giant new housing estate, bought the most sex toys for the state in 2026. This fast-growing suburb is apparently keeping pace with the capital in pleasure shopping too.
South Australia
South Australian shoppers have a slightly different taste from the national crowd. While lubricant still takes the top spot, sex machine accessories jump to #2, followed by masturbators, cock rings and dildos.

Adelaide tops the list, no surprises there. But Port Lincoln's second place is the real headline. It's Australia's self-proclaimed Seafood Capital, home to the country's biggest commercial fishing fleet and famous the world over for its tuna. Turns out pleasure shopping is just another local export.

Australian Capital Territory
The ACT's top five is led by lubricant, followed by butt plugs and cock rings, with dildos and masturbators completing the list.

The ACT's top spot goes to Acton, home to just 2,848 people and the youngest median age of any city in this report, just 19. Braddon takes second, and the suburb actually called Canberra only manages third.

Northern Territory
Its product rankings still show some variation, with strap-on dildos making the top five.

The Northern Territory saves its biggest twist for last. Forget Darwin, forget Alice Springs, the top spot belongs to Zuccoli, a suburb so new it's still getting its first coffee shops.

Tasmania
Tasmania stands out as the only state where lubricant doesn't take the top spot, with cock rings ranking first among Tasmanian shoppers instead.

Tasmania's city list has the biggest surprise in the whole report. Hobart, the state capital, doesn't even crack the top five. Kingston takes the top spot instead, a quiet, affluent beachside suburb just south of the city, with Devonport, Blackmans Bay, Glenorchy and Lower Longley rounding out the list.

Men vs Women: Who Buys More Sex Toys?
So, who's shopping for pleasure products in Australia? The data shows a clear split in both how much men and women buy and what they're buying. Men accounted for 74% of orders, compared with 26% for women.
The product rankings tell a different story too. Lubricant was the top category among men, while vibrators took the #1 spot among women.

Men’s Favourite Products
Lubricant is men's biggest product category by a wide margin, more than double the number of orders for their second-most popular category: dildos.
Men's top five is led by lubricant, followed by dildos and masturbators, with butt plugs and vibrators rounding out the ranking.
Women’s Favourite Products
When it comes to Australian women's shopping habits, vibrators lead the way, putting them ahead of lubricant, the top category nationally and among men.
Vibrators are followed by lubricant, dildos, clitoral stimulators and strap-ons.

When Australians shop for pleasure products, the data shows a clear afternoon and mid-week pattern. Tuesday recorded the most orders of any day, while 3PM was the busiest individual hour.
Australia's Busiest Day for Pleasure Shopping
Tuesday was Australia's busiest shopping day, though only just, finishing under 1% ahead of Wednesday and just over 1% ahead of Thursday.
The weekly pattern is surprisingly close at the top, with Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday all separated by little more than a percentage point.
Saturday was the clear outlier, sitting more than 12% behind Tuesday and confirming that Australians are far more likely to shop mid-week than on weekends. Maybe by the weekend, they're too busy enjoying what they ordered to think about adding more to cart.

Australia’s Peak Hour for Pleasure Shopping

for Pleasure Shopping
Unlike the day-by-day pattern, the hourly data shows a clear standout. 3 PM is Australia's prime pleasure-shopping hour, pulling in 6.1% of all orders, well above the 4.2% average for any given hour.
The quietest hour is 4 AM, hardly surprising. From there, orders build steadily through the morning before climbing sharply toward the afternoon peak, in a last-minute sprint to the finish line before evening sets in.
Australia’s Hottest Month for Pleasure Shopping
January was Australia's hottest month for pleasure product sales, responsible for 15.5% of the year's orders so far, ahead of July's 13.2% in second place. February was the quietest month, at just 11.3%, a gap of more than 4 percentage points between the two extremes.
The busiest single week of the entire data period also fell in January. The pattern tracks with everything else in this report. Australians don't shop for pleasure products at random. They shop on a schedule, and January is clearly circled on the calendar.

What We Learned from a Year of Australia’s Sex Toy Sales
Across the full dataset, the data reveals clear patterns in how Australians shop for pleasure products, including what they buy, who is shopping, when they place orders and how preferences vary around the country.
Lubricant is Australia's most-purchased pleasure product, accounting for 19.9% of all products sold. Among women, vibrators take the top spot, while lubricant leads men's purchases. The gender split is also notable, with men accounting for 74% of orders where gender was declared, compared with 26% for women.
Timing reveals another consistent pattern. Tuesday was the busiest day for orders, although only narrowly, while 3PM stood out as the busiest hour. January also recorded the highest monthly order volume during the period analysed.
Regional differences show that shopping habits aren't identical across the country. NSW accounted for 61.7% of domestic orders, while Tasmania was the only state or territory where lubricant didn't rank first, with cock rings taking the top spot instead.
Taken together, the findings show that Australia's sex toy shopping habits are shaped by a mix of strong national trends and differences by gender, location and timing. While some products consistently lead the rankings, the data also shows there isn't one single Australian shopping pattern, with different groups and regions showing their own preferences.
